Hen Parties

If you’re looking to organise something a bit different for a hen party, look no further than a fabulous evening of cooking, eating, and drinking together, organised and hosted by Sophie Grigson and the team. If you have a venue booked for a hen weekend then we can come to you with all the ingredients and kit you’ll need to whip up a fantastic meal to enjoy together. Alternatively, we are happy to find a suitable venue in Oxford or the surrounding area. If you don’t know Oxford well we are happy to point you in the right direction for anything you would like to do in the city.

We can work with hen party groups of between five and 20 people, and we will provide you with all necessary ingredients and equipment, as well as dealing with the clearing and washing-up so that you can relax and enjoy the fun. Each class lasts 2½-3½ hours, and includes a welcoming glass of Prosecco and some nibbles, 2-2½ hours preparing and cooking your meal, and then finally the chance to sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labour together.

Our style is informal, enjoyable, and enthusiastic. Our courses are very much hands-on, and are suitable for anyone, from beginner to confident cook. Omnivores, vegetarians, and anyone with special dietary requirements are all welcome.

Below are some of our most popular classes. The dishes suggested are certainly not set in stone, but they’re a good indication of what you might be making. You are welcome to choose one of these options or, alternatively, we are very happy to tailor a class to your personal requirements – if your bride has a favourite cuisine or a honeymoon destination, just let us know and we will come up with a menu just for you.

All per person costs for classes listed below do not include the cost of the venue or transport.

PASTA FESTA
Our most popular hen party course! A course which involves preparing pasta from scratch and creating three different types – perhaps a delicious ravioli, a tempting tortellini, or a beautiful stained glass pasta – with sumptuous sauces to match. We have lost count of the people who leave telling us they will pull their pasta machine out from the back of the cupboard and give it pride of place at the front.
£70 per person.

PUDDINGS AND MORE
Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth: let us guide you effortlessly through making four different desserts. You will find something for everyone on this course. Perhaps (and these are only a few options!) some Flambeed Apples in Butterscotch Sauce, a decadent Torta Caprese, delicate Chocolate Truffles, sumptuous Caramel Nut Tart, rich Brown Bread Ice Cream or some huge fluffy meringues?
£70 per person.

WOK & ROLL
Learn how to use a wok to its max, introducing proper stir-frying know-how, cutting and marinating techniques, and more. Recipes may include stir-fried Beef with Basil, stir-fried Lamb with Sweet Potatoes and Green Beans, Pad Thai, Vietnamese Sweet and Hot Aubergine with Prawns, or even simple stir-fried Garlic Stems with Shitake.
£75 per person.

TASTE OF TUSCANY
On this course we evoke the spirit of the Tuscan farmhouse taking the best of seasonal ingredients and handling them gently to bring out their generous flavours. Dishes may include a seasonal Farro Salad, Pici di Siena (eggless fresh pasta), classic Fegatini (the ubiquitous chicken liver pate of Tuscany) or the aptly named Torta Squisita (an exquisite baked ricotta tart).
£75 per person.

CHOCOLATE WITH EVERYTHING
The ideal course for the true chocaholic. We will create a full meal with chocolate as the central ingredient.  Dishes may include Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar, Chocolate Chilli Sticky Ribs, a rich caponata finished with the darkest of chocolate, unctuous Chocolate Pots with Rosemary and White Wine, or even Chocolate Pasta.
£75 per person.

LEMONGRASS, LIME AND CHILLI
In this course we start with the classic South East Asian core ingredients: lemongrass; lime; chillies; kaffir lime leaves; fish sauce and more. We’ll use them to create a tableful of gloriously energising dishes from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Join us to cook up and savour dishes such as Pad Thai, Beef Rendang (cooked in a rich dark coconut gravy), Vietnamese Bo Nhung Dam, a Vietnamese hotpot, simmered in an aromatic vinegar broth, or the outrageously more-ish Perkedel Jagung (Indonesian corn fritter).
£75 per person.

 FULL ENGLISH
Rediscover some of the hidden gems of English cookery such as Salmon in Pastry with Ginger and Currants, alongside a Watercress, Orange and Chicory Salad, Glamorgan Sausages (leeks, breadcrumbs & Caerphilly cheese) with tomato and plum sauce followed by the sublime Lemon Surprise Pudding or Apple & Sloe Gin Brown Betty with Custard.
£80 per person.

MIDDLE EASTERN GREATS
Concoct an Arabian feast, full of warm spices and fresh flavours, starting perhaps with Spinach and Sumac Pastries, then moving on to a silky Salade Mechouia, a tagine of chicken with olives and preserved lemons, and a syrup drenched Orange and Almond cake.
£80 per person.

A TAVOLA!
On this course we create our own Italian cucina and festa, conjuring up a glorious menu including some lesser known classics such as Agnello Brodettato (lamb casserole thickened with lemon and egg yolks), Sciumette (Italian floating islands), Caponata (Sicilian relish of sweet sour aubergines and celery) or Ischian Mushroom and Pecorino salad.
£80 per person.
