Basics for Beginners: Core Cooking Skills for Students and Teenagers – Part 2 – Thursday 14th September 2017
September 14 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This second class can be taken as a standalone or in conjunction with Part 1. Recipes in this class may require the use of an oven.
Here we’ll tune up with more basic skills – how to prepare and roast seasonal vegetables, how to get the best out of minced beef, or how to concoct a classic white (béchamel) sauce – essential for anything from a sizzling leftovers gratin, to a full-blown lasagna or impressive soufflé. We’ll also be making salad dressings and a warming all-in-one chunky soup. Dishes may include American sloppy joes, an Indian minced meat curry, roasted root vegetables with chickpeas and tahini sauce, warm smoked mackerel and potato salad, or Tuscan bean soup.
Through out the class we will be giving tips on kitchen safety, shopping economically, and how to follow a (relatively) healthy diet
