Basics for Beginners: Core Cooking Skills for Students and Teenagers – Part 1 – Wednesday 13th September 2017
September 13 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We’ll begin at the very beginning. If you know someone heading off to university or a teenager who doesn’t know a spoon from a spice rack, send them to us and we’ll give them the essential grounding they need to feed themselves. We’ll cover skills from chopping an onion without chopping your fingers off, to how to prepare and cook chicken. We’ll make an essential simple tomato sauce and vary it for a myriad of quick rice, couscous and pasta meals. Dishes may include a quick-fried chicken escalope with spinach and potato mash, pasta amatriciana (with bacon) or arrabiata (with chilli), or a masala omelette with peas and coriander.
Throughout the class we will be giving tips on kitchen safety, shopping economically, and how to follow a (relatively) healthy diet.
N.B. All recipes in this class can be cooked without an oven, to suit kitchens with a hob and microwave only.
